Family members of Nicholas Valtz found the 39-year-old Brooklyn resident dead in Napeague Harbor Sunday after he failed to return from a kiteboard outing, according to police.

East Hampton Town police said Valtz, a novice kiteboarder, left a Bridgehampton residence that morning. When he failed to return, his family members went looking. “Valtz was found floating in the water secured to his kite and associated kite gear in a grassy area of the harbor,” police stated.

He was discovered at about 2 p.m. near Lazy Point Road in Amagansett.

Town police detectives and the Suffolk County medical examiner’s office are investigating. Police ask anyone with information to call 631-537-7575.
