Scarboroughs to Host Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue Benefit July 26
East End animal lovers will unite for a cause on Saturday, July 26, for Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue’s third annual summer benefit.
The benefit helps Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue raise money for their many missions. The rescue not only saves animals that are destined for euthanasia in high-kill shelters throughout the United States, but they also give their rescued animals full medical treatment. Every animal is spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adoption. The goal of Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue is to ensure the overall health of every single animal they rescue and guarantee they go on to live with families who love and cherish them.
This year’s event is being held at the home of Ellen and Chuck Scarborough. Other than an Emmy award-winning NBC anchor and correspondent, Scarborough is also an animal lover and adopter of two Gimme Shelter dogs. He will act as the master of ceremonies and will be joined by guest speaker and Emmy award-winning comedy writer Bill Persky of the Dick Van Dyke Show.
Scarborough will lead a live auction that boasts top prizes such as a catered champagne lunch for four on a private boat that will cruise around Shelter Island, a guided tour of NBC studios by Scarborough, an opportunity to ride in an authentic World War II “AT-6” plane for a half hour-long tour of Long Island, and a private jet flight from Westchester County to East Hampton for up to six people.
The event will also feature a silent auction. Available items include a vintage Ralph Lauren suede throw, limited edition box of 12 stunning horse photographs signed by renowned artist Shelli Breidenbach, tickets to The Tonight Show, tickets to Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, four New York Giants tickets, 10-pack of Core Fusion classes at Exhale Fitness Studio, and a gift certificate to Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton.
During the event, attendees will be able to enjoy a musical performance by Grammy award-winning singer and songwriter Loudon Wainwright. Additional entertainment for the evening includes a “Smooch the Pooch” kissing booth with Leo the therapy dog, a ceremony honoring the rescue’s therapy dogs Leo and Lola, music by DJ Ray Jarrell, and a Bark Box station where guests can fill their own box with various toys, bones and treats to take home for their dog.
Food and drink for the evening includes cocktails from sponsor Tito’s Vodka, Spiked Seltzer, wine from NYC hot spot No Malice Palace, hors d’oeuvres donated by Ricky Eisen of Manhattan-based caterer Between The Bread, a Starbucks station serving iced green tea and coffee, and mini ice cream cones from Joe & Liza’s.
Gimme Shelter Animal Rescue’s third annual summer benefit will be held on Saturday, July 26 from 5 to 8 p.m at the home of Ellen and Chuck Scarborough in Southampton Village. Tickets to the benefit are $125 per person in advance and $175 per person at the door.
