Riverhead Cops: Man Hit Victim with Bottle and Pointed Gun
In the predawn hours Tuesday, Riverhead Town police arrested a man they say struck a victim in the face with a beer bottle then pointed a gun at him.
Police said they were called to Rail Road Avenue at 1:56 a.m. The complainant stated he was at a friend’s house on Union Avenue when a fight ensued. Edgar Bautista, 22, of Riverhead, hit the victim with the bottle, according to police. Bautista then said he was going to shoot the complainant and a friend, and he retrieved a black pistol from the house, authorities said.
The victim was treated by Riverhead Town Volunteer Ambulance Corps for a head injury.
Police recovered a 9mm handgun at the scene of the incident and placed Bautista under arrest. He is charged with second-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree, and menacing in the second degree.
