Route 25/Main Road Lane Shifts, Closures Have Begun
Throughout the Town of Southold on the North Fork, daytime travel lane shifts and closures are underway between the hours of 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Both eastbound and westbound travel will be affected. On-street parking is not permitted as work continues.
When shifting lanes is not possible, sections of the roadway will be reduced to one lane, with eastbound and westbound traffic taking turns using the lane.
Night work between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. could also cause shifts and closures.
The work is all part of an $8.1 million New York State Department of Transportation road resurfaving project on a 15-mile stretch between County Road 58 and Tuckers Lane.
The top layer of pavement is being milled then replaced with new ashphalt and fresh pavement markings, includomh bike lanes and more visible crosswalks, according to the NYSDOT.
Intercounty Paving Associates, of Hicksville, is performing the work. The time until work is completed will be affected by weather conditions.
