Shop 'til You Drop: Shopping to Support Your Favorite Causes
A little leaf-peeping trip up north this past weekend reignited a love for candles. Restaurants and inns seemed especially welcoming with that soft, cozy glow. Gift shops along the way, filled with the warming autumnal aromas of vanilla and spices, started to make me think that there is something powerful about even a little votive. At home in the evening, it has quite a soothing effect, scented or not.
While October might not yet be the month for lighting fires in your fireplace, it’s still a nice time to create a gentle atmospheric warmth. Upon returning back home, what a delight it was to find that Amaryllis Farm Equine Rescue and Sanctuary is holding a Yankee Candle fundraiser, with 40% of purchases going towards the needs of the horses. You can shop now for the holidays at yankeecandlefundraising.com. Enter the special group code of 990058932 and click “start shopping” for scents like Apple Pumpkin, Autumn Wreath, Beach Walk, Campfire Treat and much more. Ladies, football season is here! If you’re heading to a game this Sunday, leave your purse at home and wear your Sholdit Clutch Wrap Purse, a stylish scarf with a hidden pocket to store your valuables. The Sholdit is modeled after infinity scarves. Two wraps, and you’re good to go. The pocket is perfect for stashing a credit card and some cash, allowing you to keep your hands free as you cheer on your favorite team. Plus, there’s now no need to risk getting your purse dirty by placing it on the stadium floor. My Sholdit arrived last week in a yellow gold color, the perfect compliment to all of my Wake Forest football gear. The Sholdit Clutch Wrap Purse is available in a variety of colors at sholdit.com.

The Romans used oil to clean themselves and here we are in 2014, brushing aside those frothy, foamy soaps (which often over-dry and cause breakouts) and returning to oil cleansers. Argan and jojoba are great oils for rebalancing the skin, but if you’re looking to take it to another level, try Decléor Micellar Oil. Formulated as the first cleansing oil with micellar technology, it deep cleanses to reveal a healthy, balanced glow. Due to the natural affinity in skin cell and plant oil structure, micellar particles work deep into the pores, dissolving and dispersing impurities, removing all makeup (including waterproof mascara!) It’s fun to use, and toxins are removed, pores are tightened and your face is left dewy and fresh. Visit decleor.com to order your bottle and browse the entire spa skincare line.
