Hamptonites Head to the Golden Globes
Water Mill’s Matt Lauer will co-host red carpet coverage of this Sunday’s Golden Globes, the awards show presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the hand the Hamptons and Hamptonites will have in the 72nd Golden Globe Awards.
Among the presenters is Amagansett’s Gwyneth Paltrow.
The nominees include numerous films that screened during the 2014 Hamptons International Film Festival in October.
Foxcatcher and The Imitation Game were both nominated for Best Motion Picture-Drama. Foxcatcher star Mark Ruffalo attended the screening at HIFF and took part in the A Conversation With series. Morten Tyldum’s The Imitation Game received the festival’s Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize.
Birdman starring Michael Keaton and St. Vincent starring Bill Murray are nominated in the Best Motion Picture-Musical or Comedy. Murray delighted many by coming out to the Hamptons for the HIFF screening of St. Vincent.
Montauk’s Julianne Moore is nominated for Best Performance in both Drama and Musical or Comedy. The former nomination is for Still Alice, which closed the festival and also starred Amagansett’s Alec Baldwin, and the latter is for Maps to the Stars, directed by David Cronenberg.
Showtime’s The Affair, which filmed in Montauk, is nominated for Best Series-Drama.
In the Best Series-Musical or Comedy category, HBO’s Girls, which filmed an episode in Greenport in 2013, and Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black, which filmed in downtown Riverhead and at the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in 2014, are both nominated.
Hamptons fan Liev Schreiber is nominated for Best Performance in a Television Series-Drama for his role as the titular character in Showtime’s Ray Donovan. He is competing with The Affair star Dominic West, among others.
Louis C.K., who bought a home on Shelter Island this year and filmed an episode of FX’s Louie in the Hamptons with East Hampton’s Jerry Seinfeld and Chuck actress Yvonne Strahovski, is nominated for Best Performance in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy-Actor.
Hamptons fan Edie Falco is nominated for Best Performance in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy-Actress f0r her role in Showtime‘s Nurse Jackie.
The 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, will air on Sunday, January 11, on NBC from 8 to 11 p.m. The pre-show begins at 7 p.m.
