Mark Palmer Arrested Drunk Driving 106 MPH with Kids, Cops Say
Mark E. Palmer, a 49-year-old Glen Cove man, was arrested Wednesday in Hampton Bays after driving 106 miles per hour on Sunrise Highway while he was under the influence of alcohol, according to New York State police. A DWI charge was elevated to a felony because kids were in the vehicle, authorities said.
Palmer was west of exit 65 in Hampton Bays, headed east, in a Dodge Ram at 3:15 p.m. Police said that after he was pulled over he showed signs of intoxication and failed sobriety tests. Three children were in the truck, ages 6, 9 and 11 years old.
Palmer was charged with aggravated DWI under Leandra’s Law, a state law that increases the penalty for driving drunk with children age 15 or young in the vehicle.
He was assaigned at Southampton Town Justice Court.
