The National Weather Service warns that snow, sleet and freezing rain that accumulated Sunday night and Monday morning will result in all roads with standing water or slush becoming icy, making travel treacherous during the evening commute on the East End.

“Motorists should be prepared for slippery roads and are strongly encouraged to drive safely and to use extra caution while traveling through this evening,” the weather service states.

Southold Town has already announced that it will close town facilities at 2 p.m. and that Monday evening meetings will be postponed. Schools districts are beginning to announce that after-school activities and meetings are canceled Monday.

Wind chill Monday night through Tuesday morning is expected to be between 5 below and 15 below

Motorists should be prepared for slippery roads and are strongly encouraged to drive safely and to use extra caution while traveling through this evening.
