Police Investigate July 4 Shinnecock Reservation Shooting
The New York State Police SP Riverside Barracks is currently investigating a shooting incident that occurred on the Shinnecock Indian Reservation in Southampton.
On July 4th at approximately 12:40 a.m., State Troopers were notified of a gunshot wound victim being treated at Southampton Hospital. The victim was stabilized and airlifted to University Medical Center in Stony Brook for further treatment. Police investigation revealed the incident occurred on the Shinnecock Reservation in the vicinity of Little Beach Road. The victim’s name is currently being withheld pending further investigation.
A 33-year-old resident of the Reservation, Mark M. Williams, was arrested when he impeded the crime scene investigation, which is ongoing.
This is the second shooting incident on the Shinnecock Reservation in less than a month. The first incident, in the early morning hours on Monday, June 15, resulted in two victims suffering non-life-threatening injuries. They were not members of the Shinnecock Tribe.
