DockDogs Champ Tangomunch Pitbull Coming to Peconic

Greenport Harbor Brewing Company will transform its Peconic location into a dog dock diving pet expo extravaganza on Saturday and Sunday, May 20–21. The first Annual North Fork Dock Diving Pet Expo and Fundraiser Event, cohosted by Harbor Pet and sponsored by Blue Buffalo, will feature DockDogs—the world’s “largest and most diversified presenter of dock diving dog performance sports”—and benefit North Fork Welfare Animal League (NFWAL), of Southold; the American Legion Burton Potter Post; and Canine Companions for Independence (CCI).
Along with the high-flying dock diving, for both dogs and owners, that dogs and their owners, the event offers shopping from various pet vendors, beer and pet experts, who will be on hand to offer their experience and knowledge. to learn from and speak to and brews to enjoy. Vendors range from national companies, such as Weruva pet food, to local purveyors like Greenport Jerky Company. North Fork dog trainers and adoptable dogs from NFWAL will be available, and CCI is offering details about how pet parents can raise puppies for their organization.
“We wanted this event to benefit local organizations that mean a lot to us here on the North Fork and Long Island,” Harbor Pet owner Kimberly Loper says. “Being able to give back to NFWAL, CCI and Burton Potter Post, who do so much for the animals and people in our community, is something we are very passionate about.”
Of course the best part will be gathering with so many likeminded dog lovers in one place full of food and fun!
Long Island’s great champion dock diving dogs, such as Tangomunch Pitbull (see video above) and others from the Tri-State Area, will be flying through the air and making big waves during the expo. Tango, a 7-year-old American pit bull terrier, averages a 22-foot jump into the pool and travels the country to compete at many DockDog events. “This will be Tango’s second full season of competition,” his owner, Chris Geymayr of West Babylon says, noting that he rescued him as a small puppy. Tango showed immediate prowess in the sport when he flew 15 feet on the very first jump of his debut DockDogs event. “We knew he had something special,” Geymayr explains, adding, “He is a pro athlete who competes at the highest level all over the country now.”
In addition to his athletic skills, Tango is a well-known dog model with more than 22,000 followers on his @tangomunch_pitbull Instagram account. He’s also walked the runway in fashion week, and been featured in Cosmopolitan magazine, NBC Sports, The Huffington Post and Bravo.tv.
Dog owners interested in trying this aquatic dog sport are encouraged to come and let their dogs try it on Saturday or Sunday. Success is more likely for dogs who love to swim and have high toy drive.

DockDog competitions run throughout Saturday and Sunday, including Big Air, Speed and Vertical events that are open to dog dock diving novices and pros alike. Owners who want their dogs to compete, or those trying the sport for the first time, can register in advance at dockdogs.com, or in person on event day.
“We are excited to bring the North Fork’s first dock diving event, pet expo and fundraiser to our brewery,” Greenport Harbor Brewing Company cofounder Rich Vandenburgh says. “Our event will bring in businesses from all around the area, help support local and island-wide non-profit organizations and get to see dogs fly through the air and splash in the pool.”
