Driver Seriously Injured After Car Hits a Tree in Calverton

A driver was seriously hurt following an accident on Route 25 in Calverton, between Fresh Pond Avenue and Edwards Avenue, on Monday, August 31.

A single car crash in Calverton Monday afternoon left the driver seriously injured.

Riverhead Town police received a report of a collision on Route 25 at 4:54 p.m. Officers found a 2007 Honda Accord struck a tree on the north side of Route 25, which is also Middle Country Road, between Fresh Pond Avenue and Edwards Avenue.

The Riverhead Fire Department’s heavy rescue team responded. There were no witnesses, police said.

The operator, who was the sole occupant, sustained serious injuries. The Riverhead Volunteer Ambulance treated the driver at the scene and the ambulance met a Suffolk County medevac at the FedEx property on Edwards Avenue, so the driver could be airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital.

Police impounded the Accord for a safety check.
