The Southampton Animal Shelter had its Halloween Bash on Sunday. Proceeds from families who attended all go toward the care of shelter pets. The extensive volunteer program and community support helps place 94% of all dogs who find themselves at the shelter. All volunteers are required to go through a training process that teaches them handling skills. These skills help prepare the animals so that they are better mannered and therefore more likely candidates for adoption. Children from many of the local schools come and volunteer as a requirement to fill their not for profit work. The Hampton Bays Cross Country team even comes and runs with dogs to help keep them exercised!
